Golf Cart Shocks: What You Need To Know

by 10L0LGCPA 19 Oct 2022 2 Comments

The heat comes on as soon as summer hits, and it becomes time to play golf. Golf carts are a great way to get around and have fun on the course. Read this blog article about golf cart shocks and how to avoid going through problems that often arise.

Golf Cart Shocks

A golf cart shock is a device installed in a golf cart to improve the ride. A typical golf cart shock consists of an oil-filled reservoir, a piston, and a spring. When the driver presses down on the pedal, the oil pressure in the reservoir causes the piston to move up and down. This movement causes the spring to recoil, giving the golf cart a smooth ride.

There are a few things to remember when choosing golf cart shocks. First, you'll want to decide what type of shock you need. There are three main types of shocks: air, oil, and rubber.

Air shocks are the least expensive and use air pressure to create a rebound effect. They're good for low-powered golf carts that don't need a lot of shock power.

Oil shocks are the most expensive and work using a small oil reservoir to create a rebound effect. They're good for high-powered golf carts that need a lot of shock power and don't have room for an air shock.

Rubber shocks use rubber bands to create a rebound effect. They're good for both high- and low-powered golf carts and are the least expensive option.

Golf cart shocks should be replaced every three to six months, depending on how often you use your golf cart. If you always use your Yamaha Golf Cart, replacing them will improve your ride and make it more comfortable.

How Can They Solve Problems?

If you're experiencing problems with your golf cart, it may be time to consider installing a golf cart shock. Golf cart shocks can help solve various common issues, including poor handling, instability, and poor traction.

What are the Top 3 Things to Look for in Golf Cart Shocks?

If you're in the market for new golf cart shocks, there are a few things you should take into consideration. Here are the top things to look for in golf cart shocks:

Shock Absorption: The first thing you want to look for is shock absorption. A good shock absorber will reduce the amount of Bounce and Vibrations your golf cart experiences while driving. This will help to make your ride more comfortable and smooth.

Damping: Next, you want to ensure the shocks have good damping properties. This will help to prevent unwanted noise and vibrations from happening while you're driving.

Torsional Strength: Finally, you want to ensure the shocks have strong torsional strength. This will help to keep your golf cart stable while driving.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a way to improve your golf cart's handling, look into installing shocks, which help keep the cart from bouncing around, and aim to improve its overall stability. I need to replace the front shock absorbers in my electric golf cart but don’t know what size I need. The ride is very ridged with the current ones and I thought if I lower the weight tolerance in each shock it would improve the ride? I thought around 140-150 pounds per side and 12" long would improve and soften the ride? Am I thinking correctly?
